The shower included pump dispensers for shampoo and body wash, as well as a retractable clothesline for drying swimwear. It was basic, with neutral walls and blue patterned carpeting. No cutting-edge designs here, but I wouldn't expect that from an older ship. The bed was cozy, the pillows were soft, the room temperature remained comfortable, and I had ample storage for a long weekend's worth of clothing. Smoking can be a divisive issue on cruise ships, and it's banned nearly everywhere on board.

Plenty of seating, but the seats were not that comfortable. Carnival has gone to making your room up once a day. We elected to do it during the morning as I hate coming back to an unmade room later in the day.

They bring out out pico de gallo and chips prior to ordering your lunch. Service during lunch was slow and our waiter was not very attentive. We sat near the kitchen and was told that there would be a 30 minute wait for food, but they kept coming around and filling our water glasses and to see what we needed. There was much to select from and would definitely go back for dinner.

Guests staying in one of the 98 Havana Cabana rooms get a variety of private perks, including a small pool, a sundeck, patios and outdoor bar. The staffing shortages also hit bars and lounges. This is a good ship to be sober on, because you’ll rarely – if ever – be asked if you want a drink, and even then, only on the pool deck. There are no servers roaming around the ship’s other bars and lounges soliciting drinks like “the old days”.
They brought soy milk when we requested lactose free milk, without saying what it was, even after a very specific request. We’ve not encountered this on any other ship. While the buffet is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, dining rooms tend to be dinner-only affairs, save for sea days when Carnival’s popular Sea Day Brunch (reservations required) is offered. I like a simple gin martini made with a good gin. I could not get the same drink in two bars, as they stock different gins.

They no longer have a card for you to fill out and leave outside your door. I was not all that impressed on the process or the food temperature. On the morning of debarkation, we did go to the Palm restaurant and ordered breakfast, and it was very good. I believe if they will turn platinum on day one or two (or seven) of the cruise, they are considered platinum for boarding.

When I reached the floor, the door never opened and I went what appeared very fast non stop to the 4 th floor. I was not the only one who this happened too. Yes, I sailed on Venezia in January and actually went to guest services and nicely asked if this was normal as I had never experienced this on any cruise that I've sailed--including previous Carnival ships. Buffet was not wonderful but most of them aren’t.

When the weather cooperated, most passengers gravitated to the upper decks for fun in the sun and water. In addition to the one main pool and two hot tubs on Deck 9, Sunshine is home to Carnival's WaterWorks water park with waterslides and a kiddie splash zone. A bevy of diversions at the nearby SportSquare included a ropes course, minigolf, ping-pong and foosball. Our cabin was an aft (back of the ship) balcony cabin on Deck 5.
It was clear from the moment we stepped on the ship that if you didn't have a fun time, it was entirely your fault. Where we struggle with Carnival Jubilee is the volume of passengers in any given space pretty much 24/7. It’s a big ship, but it also holds a lot of passengers.

While cigarette smoking is allowed in the casino, according to Carnival's website, you must be seated and playing to smoke in the casino. Smoking is permitted in designated areas on Deck 3 (port side, forward) and Deck 10 (starboard side, midship). Nonalcoholic drinks in glass or plastic bottles are not allowed. If you want to bring the wine or Champagne to an onboard restaurant or bar to drink, you'll incur a $15 corkage fee.
